Welcome to From the Vine, a blog that started out about wine, but I am finding more and more it is about a life that I have been given to live, so I would have to say this blog is about stewardship. First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Scott Richards and I am a writer and retired school teacher living in Sparta, which is the center of Caroline County, not to mention being the center of the known world. I have a wonderful wife whom I call Diane, who is a retired school social worker, three grown children, two beautiful granddaughters, whom everyone calls Eliza and Anna and a Jack Russell terrier named Liberty.
My love for wine goes way back, when all I knew was red wine with red meat and white wine with white meat. Fortunately for all of us, those days are long gone. Diane and I moved into a new house in Sparta, where we finished planting the first phase of our vineyard the week before Easter of 2011. We had our first harvest in August and September of 2013. The 2013 vintage of Sangiovese was wonderful, and it went the way of all good wines.
I have an undergraduate degree in theology and love to discuss such matters. I attend, with Diane, Salem Baptist Church in Sparta, where all are welcome. Diane and I have been involved in lay ministry for over 45 years.
